Special Educational Needs

A Caring Christian Family Where We Grow Together
Let Your Light Shine ~ Matthew 5:16

SEND means Supporting Everyone's Needs Differently

At Warmingham CE Primary School, we recognise that all pupils are entitled to a quality of provision that will enable them to let their lights shine.  We believe in positive intervention, removing barriers to learning, raising expectations and levels of achievement and working in partnership with other agencies in order to provide a positive educational experience for all our pupils including those with a special educational need or disability.   At Warmingham CE Primary School, we ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs make the best possible progress.

Supporting SEND at Warmingham CE Primary School.

Children with special educational needs (SEN) have learning differences, difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn than most children of the same age.  These children may need extra or different help from that given to other children of the same age.   There are four broad categories of SEN:

    • Communication and Interaction
    • Cognition and Learning
    • Social, Emotional and Mental Health
    • Physical and Sensory

Here at Warmingham CE Primary School, we have experience of supporting children with a range of needs, including the following:

    • Speech, language and communication needs
    • Dyslexia
    • Autistic Spectrum Disorder
    • ADHD
    • Attachment
    • Gross and fine motor difficulties
    • Sensory processing difficulties
    • Social, emotional and mental health needs
    • Moderate and specific learning difficulties
    • Hearing and Visual Impairment

Warmingham CE Primary School`s approach to teaching children & young people with SEN

Inclusion at Warmingham CE means supporting all pupils to learn, contribute and participate in all aspects of school life alongside their peers.   Warmingham CE Primary School prides itself in being very inclusive and we endeavour to support every child regardless of their level of need.   All pupils follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum or National Curriculum at a level and a pace that is appropriate to their abilities.   At times and when it is felt appropriate, modifications to the curriculum may be implemented for some of our children with an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP).

At Warmingham C of E Primary School we work hard to ensure that every child is happy, supported, is fully included in learning and makes good progress.   We have an extensive range of strategies and interventions in place in order to achieve this and our school building is fully accessible by all children.  As a school:

    • We ensure that all children with SEND are fully included in all activities of the school in order to promote the highest levels of achievement.
    • We help all children to reach their full potential, despite any difficulty or disability they may have.
    • We ensure that all staff are aware of and sensitive to the needs of all pupils, supporting pupils in a way that is appropriate to their needs.
    • We support children to gain in confidence and improve their self-esteem.
    • We ensure we work in partnership with parents/carers and external agencies such as Cheshire East Educational Psychologist Service, Cheshire East Autism Team, Speech and Language Team (SALT), Emotionally Healthy Schools Team, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMH's) and Community Paediatricians.
    • We ensure we identify at the earliest opportunity, all children that need special consideration to support their needs (whether these are educational, social, physical or emotional).
    • We ensure we promote self-worth and enthusiasm by encouraging independence at all ages and ability levels.

How Warmingham CE Primary School adapts the curriculum and learning environment for children with SEND

We adapt the curriculum and learning environments to support children with SEN.  All of our children will have their special educational needs met in the mainstream classroom through Quality First Teaching (QFT).   At Warmingham, every teacher  is a teacher of SEND.

How the children with SEND at Warmingham CE Primary School are engaged in all activities

Here at Warmingham CE Primary School we ensure all children to engage fully in all aspects of school life.  At Warmingham C of E Primary School we intend that children are able to achieve their best.  For all our pupils with SEND we intend to raise the aspirations of and expectations by providing a focus on outcomes for pupils to ensure they achieve their potential.  Inclusion is a thread that runs through every area of the school enhanced by collaboration between senior leaders, teachers, support staff, external agencies, parents and most importantly, the child.

As a school:

    • We ensure that all children with SEND are fully included in all activities of the school in order to promote the highest levels of achievement.
    • We ensure that all pupils have access to the school curriculum.
    • We ensure that extended provision (After School Clubs) is offered to all children.
    • We ensure that all children are offered the opportunity to engage in curriculum enhancement after school clubs ran by teaching and support staff.
