Attendance
A Caring Christian Family Where We Grow Together
Let Your Light Shine ~ Matthew 5:16
At Warmingham CE Primary, we believe that every day in school offers a valuable opportunity for learning, growth, and building lasting habits. When children attend school regularly and arrive on time, they make the most of these daily opportunities. Regular attendance and punctuality are not only key to success in the classroom but also help lay the foundation for future academic and professional success.
Consistent attendance ensures that children experience each lesson, participate in class discussions, and develop important social skills with their peers. When a child is present and on time, they can fully engage with all the learning activities and collaborative projects that take place throughout the day. This rich, uninterrupted learning environment helps build confidence and reinforces the steady growth of knowledge and skills.
Moreover, establishing a habit of punctuality and regular attendance early on is incredibly valuable for the future. These habits contribute to a strong work ethic, greater personal responsibility, and adaptability - qualities that are highly regarded later in education and in the workplace. By developing these positive routines, our children learn the importance of commitment and reliability, setting them up for success in all aspects of life.
We understand that unforeseen circumstances can sometimes make regular attendance challenging. Our aim is not to judge but rather to work together with families to support consistent school attendance wherever possible. If you ever need assistance or advice on maintaining a good attendance routine, please do not hesitate to contact us. Every child's presence is an important part of our community, and we are here to help ensure that all our students thrive.
Thank you for partnering with us to create a nurturing environment where each day is maximized for learning, development, and success.
Authorised Absence - where the school approves pupil absence.
At Warmingham CE Primary, we understand that there are valid reasons for a child to miss school - whether due to illness, hospital appointments or stays, emergency dentist visits when your child is in pain, or religious holidays.
However, please note that under the provisions of the Education Act 1993, only the school can authorise an absence.
This means a pupil’s absence is only considered authorised when they are unable to attend because they are ill, are participating in a religious observance, or in the event of a bereavement or other exceptional circumstance that has been agreed upon with the Head Teacher.
If your child is unwell, you need to phone the school office by 9am.
Lateness
We all want each child to make the most of their school day, which is why being on time is so important. When a child is late, it not only affects their own learning but can also disrupt lessons for others.
Our school gate opens at 8:30am to help children settle in and get ready for the day ahead. School starts promptly at 8:45am, and we expect all pupils to be in their classrooms for registration at that time. If a child arrives after 8:45am, once the gate is locked, they should use the main entrance and report to the office. At that point, a parent will need sign their child in.
Anyone arriving after 8:45am will receive a late mark. As registers close at 9:00am, any child arriving after this time will be marked as unauthorised unless a valid medical reason is provided.
Family Holidays during term time
At Warmingham CE Primary, we value every day that our children spend learning and growing. To ensure all children benefit fully from their education, we strongly encourage parents to avoid scheduling family holidays during term time.
Please be aware that holidays taken during term time will not be authorised unless there are exceptional circumstances, and parents do not have the right to take their child out of school for a holiday. It is important to note that if a child is absent for more than 10 sessions (5 days) that both parents will be liable to prosecution.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain an environment where each child can thrive.
Monitoring of Attendance and Punctuality
At Warmingham CE Primary we believe that every child’s success hinges on consistent attendance and punctuality. The DfE requires us to monitor attendance and punctuality on a regular basis to ensure that each child is benefiting fully from their learning time.
When we notice any concerns regarding attendance, we will reach out to you promptly and discuss how we can work together to support your child.
We understand that there are many valid reasons for occasional absences, and we are here to help navigate these challenges in a supportive and non-judgemental way.
However, in accordance with the Department for Education’s guidance, if attendance issues persist despite our joint efforts, we may have to refer the matter to the Local Authority.
Our goal is to ensure your child receives every opportunity to succeed, and we appreciate your partnership in this important aspect of their education.
